Highlight is a South Korean boy band which was under Cube Entertainment under the name “Beast” until 2016. They were originally formed in 2009.
The currently five member band consist of Yoo Doo-joon, Yong Jun-hyung, Yang Yo-seob and Song Dong-woon.
In April 2016, one members Jang Hyun-seung left the group.

Profile of Highlight

Debut and Success

The band released its debut album “Beast is the B2ST” in October 2009 which had five songs.
“Beast is the B2ST” won the group their first Rookie of the month in December of that year, and had about 40,000 sales.
Highlight then signed with Universal Music Group in 2010 to promote their songs internationally and also assist with their album launch.
Their debut success made them had a chance to promote their music in Taiwan.
At the 19th Seoul Music Award Highlight, which was still under the name Beast as this time, was awarded the Best Newcomer Award alongside other groups.

Debut in Japan and other areas

Highlight’s continuing success made them rise in recognition in other Asian countries.
This made them release a Japanese debut of their single Shock in 2011. The track was gained the second position on the Oricon’s weekly chart.
They then decided to embark on a Japan Tour. However, due to the Tohoku earthquake, the tour was cancelled.
The group’s international recognition increased and decided to embark on a tour called the Beautiful Show.

Yoon Doo-joon

Yoon Doo-joon whose stage name is Doojoon is a dancer, rapper and singer in the group.
He had interest in music as soon as he watched a documentary of Big Bang and decided to enroll in a Music School.
His parents didn’t agree with him at first, however after a while of conviction, they supported him.
He had his training at JYP Entertainment but later joined Cube Entertainment when he was eliminated from JYP prior to 2AM and 2PM debut.
He then had the opportunity to become the leader of Highlight.

Sechs Kies is a famous South Korean male idol group that was formed in 1997.
The group became widely known in Korea and they have always been compared to as a rival of the other famous South Korean idol groups like Shinhwa ad H.O.T.
The group was under the management of Daesung Entertainment until their disbandment in 2000.
Sechs Kies got reunited again in 2016, and they are now under the management of the famous Korean entertainment label, YG Entertainment.

Debut and Success

It was in April of 1997 when the group Sechs Kies was formed.
They released their first solo album titled School Song and they also had their first single with the same title.
Because of their promotional activities, they were easily recognized by the public and they became 1997’s Rookie Idol Group of the Year.
They continued their promotion until 1998, having a nationwide tour and a film of their own because of their popularity.
The group was pretty much active until 1999, and they also won numerous awards.
In 2000, the group decided to part ways to make up a solo career for each of the members instead.
16 years after, Sechs Kies reunited once again as a group and is now being managed by YG Entertainment.
They have yet to release a new album as of the moment.

Eun Ji Won is the leader of Sechs Kies.

He was supposedly only going to be paired up with Kang Sung Hoon in a hip-hop group, but their label decided to form a six-member group instead because of the group H.O.T was rising to fame as well during that time.
Aside from being a rapper, Eun Ji Won is also a host, composer, and dancer.
After Sechs Kies’ disbandment in 2000, Eun Ji Won continued to pursue a solo career of his own, transferring from different labels every now and then, but he still received a lot of positive responses from the public.
Ji Won also became a regular guest on different variety shows in South Korea.

Kang Sung Hoon

Kang Sung Hoon is the lead vocalist of Sechs Kies.
He is said to have the best singing voice in the group, as compared to the other members.
Before debuting, Kang Sung Hoon was scouted along with Eun Ji Won in a nightclub.

Kim Jae Duc is Sechs Kies’ third member.
He is the rapper and the dancer of the group and he is considered as one of the group’s best dancers.
Before he officially became a member of Sechs Kies’ he was once in a dance crew called Quicksilver’s along with his fellow Sechs Kies member Lee Jae Jin.
Right after their group’s disbandment in 2000, Jae Duc formed a duo along with Sechs Kies member Jang Su Won.

Along with Kim Jae Duc, he was a choreographer of the dance group Quicksilver.

After the group’s disbandment, Jae Jin also became a solo artist.
He debuted with his album titled “It’s New”.
He has released three albums since his solo debut.

Jang Su Won

He is also the maknae or the group or much better known as the youngest member of the group.

Debut and Success

Shinee debuted in 2008 with their first mini album, titled “Replay”. The mini-album ranked number ten on Korean music charts and they sold at least 17,000 copies of their album in the first half on 2008.
They also released their full-length album in the same year and it they were able to sell more than 30,000 copies of their first full-length album. The group has also won numerous awards during their debut year.
It was in 2009 when they had their breakthrough with their second full-length album “Lucifer”. The aforementioned album received positive responses from the both from the media and the public.

Onew is the eldest member of the group.
